What is Advertising? | Institution Marketing

All right this is part one of the
advertising series and there’s part one of two. The first part of this it
fundamentally covers what advertising is. Advertising is you taking your brand and
putting it out into the public domain, in some way. So most people tend to think
that it’s selling a particular product or service, to some extent that’s true. But
realistically underneath all of that you are selling your brand, that’s what
people will come back for time and time again. If you provide a service that
people really enjoy and it’s a good service, they will keep coming back to
you for the same service amongst all your competitors. They could quite easily
go somewhere else for the same service even though you might be a bit busier
and it takes a bit longer they will come to you because they like the
quality. This is how advertising fundamentally works, so whenever you put
your ideas out into the public domain it’s all about you selling you. Because
ultimately your brand is you, therefore when you go out onto, I don’t know,
digital advertising boards or out onto video advertising on the internet for
example you are selling yourself as a business owner. So we’ve talked a bit
about how your brand fits with you and represents everything that you are. So
when you sell your brand that’s advertising. So whenever you’re pitching
something to someone or people that you might not necessarily know in a broad
sense so you’re doing a big advertising piece on TV or whatever,
always remember that no matter what it is that you’re focusing on, be that a
specific product or service, you’re always going to be selling your brand
therefore everything needs to be represented in such a way that it
follows with your brand.
