THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH NONLIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. TONIGHT SURVIVORS SAY THEY FEEL A MEASURE OF CLOSURE AFTER DOCTOR LARRY NASSAR WAS SENTENCED FOR MOLESTING OLYMPIC ATHLETES. THEY ALSO ARE SLAMMING THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT THEY SAY LET NASSAR CONTINUE TO PREY ON VICTIMS DESPITE REPORTS OF HIS BEHAVIOR. NO MORE. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. WE WILL NOT SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS THAT ALLOW CHILDREN TO BE PREYED ON AND I ECHO THE CALL FROM MY SURVIVOR SISTERS FOR THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO STEP UP AND SAY NO MORE. NOW WHILE THOSE IN THE COURTROOM SAW JUSTICE SERVED, THOSE MOMENTS RAN COUNTER TO A DISTURBING TREND. AS WBZ’S JON KELLER SHOWS US, THERE’S BEEN A SHARP DECLINE IN CONFIDENCE IN OUR GOVERNMENTAL INSTITUTIONS. TRUST IS DRIVEN DOWN BY A LOSS OF CONFIDENCE IN GOVERNMENT. Reporter: THE COLLAPSE OF TRUST MEASURED IN THIS NEW POLL IS STARTLING. AMERICA AT THE MOMENT IS AT SEA. I BELIEVE OUR SYSTEM WORKS. Reporter: BUT A MORAL BEACON FOR US TO NAVIGATE BY EMERGED AT THE SENTENCING OF THE FORMER USA GYMNASTICS DOCTOR FOR MOLESTING SCORES OF WOMEN AND GIRLS. JUDGE ROSEMARIE AQUILINA DIDN’T JUST THROW THE BOOK AT LARRY NASSAR, SHE USED THE MOMENT TO PLEAD FOR MORE CANDOR ABOUT SEX CRIME. 400,000 BABIES BORN IN THE U.S. WILL BECOME VICTIMS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE. IT STOPS NOW. SPEAK OUT LIKE THESE SURVIVORS, BECOME PART OF THE ARMY. Reporter: THE JUDGE LOBBIED FOR MORE SCRUTINY OF ORGANIZATIONS LIKE MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY AND USA GYMNASTICS THAT ALLEGEDLY IGNORED VICTIMS AND ENABLED NASSAR’S CRIMES. JUSTICE REQUIRES MORE THAN WHAT I CAN DO ON THIS BENCH. Reporter: AND SHE GAVE AN ELOQUENT DESCRIPTION OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM’S VALUE. INACTION IS AN ACTION. SILENCE IS INDIFFERENCE. JUSTICE REQUIRES ACTION AND A VOICE. THAT’S WHAT’S HAPPENED HERE IN THIS COURT. I FEEL NAUSEOUS. Reporter: THERE WAS COMFORT FOR THE VICTIMS IN HER WORDS. YOU ARE NO LONGER VICTIMS. YOU ARE SURVIVORS. Reporter: AND HER IN SENTENCE. [ APPLAUSE ] THE JUDGE IN THIS CASE CERTAINLY HAD HER PRIORITIES IN ORDER. SHE STOOD UP FOR THE VICTIMS. SHE STUCK IT TO THE PERPETRATOR. AND SHE SOUNDED THE ALARM FOR MORE ACTION AGAINST OTHER INSTITUTIONS THAT WERE ALLEGEDLY COMPLICIT HERE. PERHAPS THIS MIGHT BE AN EXAMPLE OF HOW INSTITUTIONS WORK WHEN THEY WORK PROPERLY THAT WE CAN ALL HOLD UP. POWERFUL WHEN SHE SAID IT WAS
