Reply saulgoodman says: July 10, 2019 at 2:01 pm God this show has really turned me on Colbert. Here we have a guest in Jordan Peele that would have been fantastic on The Colbert Report but somehow here, I don't know whether Stephen's ego has gotten big or maybe Stephen has always just out of touch, but he made this super awkward for Jordan. Why is he making this so confrontational and making him feel uncomfortable? 3:46, 6:38 Stephen was pretty condescending and I'm glad Jordan kind of called him out on it. GET OUT of this interview. Regardless of race. I didn’t watch this movie thinking that “ohhh the lead is black, this is different!” 🤔😕 I just watched a really good movie and didn’t care that the lead was black etc. Why constantly highlight it like it’s a novelty??? Reply salvatore says: July 25, 2019 at 2:52 pm He fine as hell Reply odibex says: July 26, 2019 at 2:35 am he seems like a really honest guy. really open about race stuff and didn't seem care if a couple things he said sounded pompous (did I say uppity, I didn't say uppity), I mean the things were true but I think some people have a filter. I would too I wouldn't be talking about personal shit in front of them all. seemed like Colbet and him had a good repartee too. Reply Colby chan says: July 26, 2019 at 10:58 pm is it me or is Stephen Colbert a bit of a dick? "use the proper tenses, youre a better writer than that?" Reply Brendan Whelan says: July 31, 2019 at 8:41 pm I’m white and I despise the history of my race and I loved the social commentary about racism, but I didn’t think it was scary at all. It seems like you can’t speak out negatively about this film cause as he said, that would be racist. I just wasn’t scared at any point. I didn’t buy into how easy she could hypnotize him by saying “sink”. I didn’t buy into the process of the surgery… and it all reminded me of Stepford Wives. That said, he’s a genius actor and should act in a horror film himself. Reply Astral Alundra says: August 2, 2019 at 1:22 pm I didn’t realize peele was such a racist… Reply Rabid Bunny says: August 2, 2019 at 3:43 pm I don't see why ppl think the interview is awkward, it's hilarious 😂 Reply SIERRA SAWYERJONES says: August 4, 2019 at 5:09 am Kinda sad I watched this interview. He was my favorite until I saw how racist he is toward white people. Reply Political Scientist Nick Snydz says: August 4, 2019 at 4:00 pm I like Key and Peele sketches… I thought the movie was average, but I'm white so it wasn't really aimed at my demo… I haven't liked Colbert since he left the Colbert Report… This was a very strange encounter… Peele came out and immediately seemed either nervous or a bit arrogant, Colbert seemed either uptight or nervous also… Very weird chemistry… I think there must be some industry beef there. Reply Ana Castellano says: August 6, 2019 at 12:31 pm Colbert is the kind of guy that would get raped by a black and not press charges. Reply PiCheZvara says: August 7, 2019 at 2:13 pm I'm probably the only one here, but Peele comes off a bit weird, or even racist here. I'm aware that he didn't clap when Green Book won best picture this year and I know he said in an interview he doesn't see himself casting a white leading man in his movie, because "he's seen that". Which are both odd things if you ask me, especially in 2019. Here, he doesn't seem to be able to poke even a little fun at his work or at his own expense. Even black comedians regularly commenting on race, racism, etc. like Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor seem to be able to laugh at themselves a little bit and not take themselves too seriously. Peele on the other hand drops little jabs at white people in almost everything he says in this interview. Get Out is a "documentary", the movie is "truth and truth resonated with people and it's more like a historical biopic", having a black person as protagonist means the movie has a protagonist "who is aware a horror is going down" and especially when describing the white audience's reaction to the movie when they get scared/offended because "they said in real life something the villains are saying in this film". And of course the black guy in Night of the living Dead is ready to fight zombies, because "he's been fighting off white people all his life" (which is, no matter what anyone says, a VERY weird way to look at that character in the context of that film). And then when Colbert says just "oh, OK" to Peele saying there's a black horror movies course at UCLA, Peele immediately jumps on it, saying "what do you mean, OK?" As if there was anything Colbert possibly could've meant with his remark. It all can be passed off as jokes, but there's some true and very strong underlying feelings there IMO. Get Out was a great movie, Us has an interesting message too and he seems like a very smart and capable guy, but to me it seems like Peele takes this whole racial thing/theme and himself way too seriously. He comes off like he does have some prejudice against white people in general. I really like his work and I hope I'm wrong, but he gave off a weird vibe here. I still remember seeing it the first time sometime in the 90s and recognizing how ahead of its time it was given that the black dude was the true hero of the group. When he knocked out one of the white guys in the group for freaking out too much I was super shocked. Not expecting that from a film that old at all. He's probably mixing the two up because of the old Exorcist sketch Pryor did on SNL. Reply Racing Pigeons says: September 1, 2019 at 2:07 pm Strutting rooster.
