Celebration Ceremony | Spartans All-Access | Michigan State University

November 10, 2019 1 By Kody Olson

(slow acoustic music) – It’s my vision, long time no see. – See, we all clean. – Welcome to Celebrate 2019
where we honor our past, our present, and our future. It just couldn’t be more of an honor to be with so many of our
wonderful student-athletes and our Hall of Fame
honorees this evening. – It was really really cool. I thought, like, when we got there, like, just seeing everybody,
all the student-athletes that were getting their
letterman’s jacket, and seeing the old student-athletes come wearing their jackets or the Hall of Fame inductees being there. It was a really cool
moment, just to be like, wow, we’re kind of a part
of all this together, like one big Spartan nation. (applause) – And, to all the current
MSU athletes here today, I cannot encourage you enough
to enjoy Michigan State, it’s a great atmosphere,
the fondest memories that you will ever have will be here. You’ll remember them for a lifetime. – Listening to the Hall of Famers, mostly just the lessons
that they’ve learned, you try to apply it to yourself being here in Michigan State because they all say something different and then just being able
to hear their stories and kinda be able to just
apply it to your life, here at Michigan State, is just what I try to take out of it. – My parents, Thad and Effie Dennis, now deceased, who taught me the importance of keeping good grades,
good credit, listen kids, (crowd laughs) and good work ethics. – It’s incredible to see that, you know, what they’ve accomplished
in their four years here, and to hear them say the
same thing that I’ve heard from multiple people, is just embrace it. These four years go by fast and they do things that,
like, I think are crazy. So, one of the things was the wrestler, he went undefeated for four years. And, it’s crazy to think
like that that’s possible. Listening to each one of their
stories was life-changing and kinda made me look
at the bigger picture and, to like, embrace practice,
whether I want to go or not. – Success in life has a direct relation to the lessons you will learn in sports. And it’s so true. But, learn how to embrace
your practice session. If you ever truly want to be great, you’ve gotta embrace your practice. So often I would hear people say, “oh I hate it, I gotta go to practice, they work me so hard.” I could not wait to get to practice because that’s what makes
you as an individual and it gets you ready
for the competitions. – Their stories are absolutely incredible. I was so inspired by
each and everyone of them and I hope to be there one day. (applause) – It shows everybody is different and everybody has an amazing story, especially those great people being inducted into the Hall of Fame. And, it really inspires you into really trying to be
the best athlete you can be, but also the best person you can be while representing Michigan State. – Well, our Hall of Fame
recipients have shown us that, you know, we all as Spartans
have different journeys, we come from different places, but the common thread is
that we are all land here in East Lansing one way or another. – It does feel I have accomplished a lot because I’ve been a gymnast
for as long as I can remember and I grew up at a very challenging gym. And, all the hard work, getting into here has been so incredible, and being able to share the
experiences with my teammates and give them everything that
I have is just so incredible. – [Announcer] Sydney Ewing (applause) – I think definitely it’s a symbol, not so much that I have made it, but so much that my hard
work is progressing, it’s paying off, but there is
still so much work to do now. But, it’s definitely
a great accomplishment that I’m so proud of
and really encourages me to work harder in the future. – [Announcer] Xavier Henderson (applause) – I’ve grown up a Spartan
fan my entire life and coming from a small
town of Mason, Michigan, like, 15 minutes south here,
I’ve always been around campus and always been a Spartan fan. And, it’s kind of like a dream come true, I guess you could say for me, to be able to be a Division I athlete and be able to get this
letterman’s jacket. And, yeah I guess it is
kinda like wearing your work a little bit cause you
put in so much hard work and blood, sweat, and tears, as they say. – [Announcer] Brad Wilton (applause) – After tearing my ACL, waiting an extra year to get it, was I think that much more special. It’s a blessing to have
this and to wear this and to honor, like, everybody
else that has this as well. – [Announcer] Clair Hendrickson (applause) – It’s people you see,
kind of all the time, around on campus, but we’re all really trying to go in
one direction as a school, as a community. I mean, trying to bring light
to the community around us, everything around us. And, it’s just a great
platform that we have that we all can take advantage
of as student-athletes here. (soft instrumental music) (applause) – [Crowd] Go team. (upbeat music)
